Monsters in the Window – BOX13 ArtSpace, Houston, TX

This installation was on view at BOX13 ArtSpace from JAN 15, 2022 – FEB 26, 2022.

I have a theory that the tons of plastic trash being dumped into the oceans and other places, will become a resource for newly evolved life forms. Whether this will be helpful to humanity or not is where the monster comes in.

In this exhibition, I fill the window at Box 13 with an alternate world of evolutions that I have created from repurposed plastic and other mixed media. The glass window will become an aquarium for the creatures. The work is detailed, beautiful, and looks like glass yet also gives the viewer a deeper message to contemplate.

My art extends the process of human manipulation of natural influences that become decoration. It concerns contemplation of the ways we affect the plants and animals around us, and, sometimes how we may be affected by them. The excessive, compulsive process I use in my work evokes a quality of human over manipulation. My message is not overt. My intent is not to preach but instead create work that will engender thought about the relationship between humans and their surroundings.
