Building a Lantern with ArtResin®

This is not a full-fledged tutorial on lantern building, but a demonstration of how resin is incorporated into the work.

Building a lantern with ArtResin®
Parts for the lantern: a plastic bottle, edged reef blooms, and stretchy etchings.

Items to be coated are suspended from above or placed on other objects. A plastic tarp is over the work table. The two-part epoxy is mixed by pouring back and forth between two containers, stirring all the time.

mixing color with art resin for the lantern
Color is stirred in with the mixed resin..

Tip: I prefer to use a sacrificial brush that I only use for resin. After use I store the brush in a small amount of isopropyl alcohol. I blot off the alcohol before each use.

Coating flowers for the lantern with art resin
Reef blooms are coated with the resin and left to dry.

The resin coating makes the piece shiny and provides a weather resistant UV coating so the work can survive outside. It acts to further bond the tar gel prints to the recycled plastic.
