Creature from the Bleached Lagoon

Performance art moves my message about pollution and climate change outside the gallery. The creature references’50s B movies and Japanese Kaiju where human destruction of the environment wreaks havoc.

The plastic in the Great Trash Reef has evolved into a monster that allows me to interact humorously with all ages. The Creature is made from repurposed plastic kitty litter containers and cast acrylic prints that provide texture and color. Its pebbly skin is lighted with battery-operated LEDs.

Recently, at Light Up! in Skagaströnd, Iceland, I used a projection of the creature with an alternative evolution reef from repurposed Icelandic trash.
