SUMMARY:Alchemy: Works on Paper – Ruiz-Healy Art
DESCRIPTION:On View through April 1\, 2023 \n\n\n\nAlchemy: Works on Paper features Latinx\, Latin American\, and Texas-based artists who work in a range of mediums including collage\, drawing\, painting\, and printmaking. The exhibition demonstrates the power of the artist’s hand and the seemingly magical process of transformation that occurs in the creation of an artwork. The flexible quality of paper\, and its two-dimensional constraints\, is manipulated in this way to blur the realms of reality and fantasy.

SUMMARY:Art that Matters to the Planet 2022
DESCRIPTION:Opening July 27\, 2022 \n\n\n\nArt and science are tools which we use to understand our world. By considering both\, artists are able to envision new ways to raise awareness about environmental issues and shape a more sustainable future. It is with this in mind that the Roger Tory Peterson Institute is inaugurating an annual juried exhibition at the nexus of art and science. The inaugural exhibition seeks to discover the meaning of the phrase “Art that Matters to the Planet.” \n\n\n\nArt that Matters to the Planet isn’t your typical exhibition. We invited each selected artist to collaborate to create an exhibition that best describes their artistic process. These artists are exhibiting finished works\, preparatory drawings\, and field sketches. Accompanying narratives\, photographs and videos are important for some\, not so much for others. Whatever it takes to help you\, the audience\, understand how and why each artist uses art to illuminate the beauty of nature\, challenge us to confront environmental issues of regional\, national or global concern; and inspire us to preserve the earth’s biodiversity. \n\n\n\nIn other words\, in a world of exceptional natural beauty and overwhelming environmental challenges\, these artists are making a strong case that art not only matters\, but it is essential for creating a better world. \n\n\n\nMargaret Craig is one of the selected artists for this exhibition and will also be presenting her performance piece\, Creature from the Bleached Lagoon. \n\n\n\nMargaret Craig – Creature from the Bleached Lagoon

SUMMARY:Monsters in the Window | Margaret Craig
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception – Saturday\, January 15\, 2022\, 1 – 5 PMOn view Saturdays\, 1 – 5PMJanuary 15\, 2022 – February 26\, 2022Back BOX \n\n\n\n\nI believe that the tons of plastic trash being dumped into the oceans and other places will become a resource for newly evolved life forms. Whether this will be helpful to humanity or not is where the monster comes in. In this exhibition\, I fill the window at Box 13 with an alternate world of evolutions I have created from repurposed plastic and other mixed media. The glass window will become an aquarium for the creatures. The work is detailed\, beautiful\, and looks like glass yet also gives the viewer a deeper message to contemplate. \n\n\n\nMy art extends the process of human manipulation of natural influences that become decoration. It concerns contemplation of how we affect the plants and animals around us\, and\, sometimes\, how they may affect us. The excessive\, compulsive process I use in my work evokes a quality of human over-manipulation. My message is not overt. My intent is not to preach but instead create work that will engender thought about the relationship between humans and their surroundings. \nMargaret Craig\n\n\n\nContact gallery for appointments.
